In 1993 the Amateur Fencing Association, (now the British Fencing Association), linked with North Kesteven District Councils sports development unit, to address the void of fencing in Lincolnshire.  At this time only one known club, North Kesteven Fencing Club, was in operation.  A series of coaching courses were set up with the aim of self-promoting/developing of fencing within the county.  The A.F.A. then set up a meeting between interested parties that were keen to promote fencing, and suggested forming a steering committee that would develop into a Full County Union.  The steering committee then pursued a grant from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts to help develop new and existing initiatives.  On securing the grant, the Union was formed in April 1994.
